LPSC Mahendragiri to function as independent unit: Minister

The Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre at Mahendragiri in the district, one of the three units of LPSC in the country,will function independently from tomorrow, Union Minister V Narayanasamy said today.

The three units of LPSC, research centre under ISRO, are located at Valiyamala, near Nedumangad in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, Mahendragiri and Bangalore.

The Union Minister, who participated in a function here, said there was a demand from employees and locals to make the unit here, functioning since 1984, an independent unit.

The LPSC Mahendragiri could be called the 'Jet Propulsion Laboratory of India' as all stage and engine related tests of ISRO's launch vehicle programmes are said to be carried out here.
 

An indigenous liquid hydrogen plant was erected at this facility to supply fuel for the cryogenic upper stage of GSLV.
