Amidst debate over suicide by Dalit student Rohith Vemula, a Lok Sabha member today demanded that the government should abolish interview system for dalits and provide job reservation in private sector for this deprived section.
"Vemula case is not the last one. It might take place in future if government doesn't do away with interview system even at higher education and job recruitment," RJD member Rajiv Ranjan said during the Zero Hour in the Lok Sabha.
Dalits face "discrimination" during interview at school colleges or higher education, he alleged, adding since Prime Minister Narendra Modi has done away with interview for recruitment of Group C and D governemnt job, it should be done for dalits in all spheres.
Besides, there should be job reservation for dalits in the private sector, he said. People from SC/ST community are eligible for reservation in the government sector.
In order to promote Hindi language, BJP MP P P Chaudhary said the cost of mobile messages in Hindi language should be reduced so that poor are not unnessarily burdened.
"Mobile messages in English are cheaper as compared to Hindi. It puts unnecessary cost burden on farmers and poor who don't know english," he said.
In order to promote Hindi language, the government should take steps so that the cost for sending text in the national language is reduced.
On the issue of bonded labour, BJP MP Varun Gandhi said out of 36 million across the world, 16 million are in India itself as per ILO report.
Despite having law to curb such practices, he said, this still continues in various part of country including Punjab and Bihar.
There is need to remove conviction clause so that law to curb bonded labour becomes effective, he said, adding, the government should provide necessary skill training apart from giving compensation.
During skill training proper accommodation and food should be provided, he said.
