A member in Lok Sabha today said a proposal is in the offing to privatise five airports and opposed any such move to save jobs of 5,000 employees.

Raising the matter during Zero Hour, Saugata Roy (TMC) said the Airports Authority of India (AAI) is planning to privatise five airports, including Kolkata, Chennai, Ahmedabad and Jaipur.

The 5 airports have over 5,000 employees and were modernised recently using Rs 5,000 crore.

"Government should immediately stop the move of AAI and also ensure security of services of the employees," Roy said.

Another member Jagdambika Pal (BJP) demanded to know what action the government has taken after reports emerged that Pakistan had an idea about telephonic conversation in Indian Army.

He said the Indian Army had deployed forces in Rajasthan and Jammu & Kashmir and Pakistan got information about it through bugging. Following this the defence ministry issued an advisory asking army officers not to discuss important information on phone.

K Suresh (INC) asked the Centre to implement the One Rank One Pension in defence sector.

He said successive governments have assured of its implementation, but the proposal is still pending.
