A case has been registered against Madhya Pradesh Law and Public Relations Minister PC Sharma for allegedly promising jobs to Congress workers during a poll rally earlier this month.
Sharma, an MLA from Bhopal South-West Assembly seat, had made the remarks at a meeting on April 4 at Narmada Bhawan.
Senior leader Digvijaya Singh is the Congress candidate from Bhopal Lok Sabha seat.
Talking to reporters on Monday, MP Chief Electoral Officer V L Kantharao said, "We have received a report from Bhopal District Returning Officer. A case was registered against PC Sharma for violating the model code of conduct."
Sharma, during the April 4 meeting, had told booth level Congress workers from his constituency that those who performed well in their respective booths would be given government jobs.
The state BJP complained to the EC, which ordered the district returning officer to probe the matter.
TT Nagar police station in charge Virendra Chouhan said a case was registered on Sunday night on a complaint filed by Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Sunil Shrivastava for violation of model code of conduct.

Sharma told PTI he did not violate the model of conduct.
"I told the gathering that new jobs would be created by the Congress government. So more jobs would be available for them. Congress has pledged to make jobs its top priority in the Lok Sabha manifesto. Our Chief Minister Kamal Nath ji is also making efforts to create more jobs," Sharma said.
"What is wrong if I say more jobs would be available for the youths and they would be benefited from it. We don't make false promise of two crore jobs like the BJP did in the last Lok Sabha elections," he claimed.
MP BJP spokesperson Rahul Kothari said luring workers by promising government jobs was immoral and a violation of law.
"Sharma used immoral and illegal tactics to ensure the victory of party candidate Digvijaya Singh. He is the law minister of the state, but he himself violated the model code of conduct," Kothari said.
