LS polls: Ex-ministers Patil, Shingne of NCP file nominations

Former Maharashtra Ministers Rana Jagjitsinh Patil and Rajendra Shingne were among prominent candidates who filed their nomination papers Tuesday for the next month's Lok Sabha polls.

Patil and Shingne, both from the NCP, filed their papers for the Osmanabad and Buldhana parliamentary constituencies.

Rajesh Vitekar, also of the NCP, filed papers for the Parbhani Lok Sabha seat.

Congress leaders Ashok Chavan (Nanded) and Sushilkumar Shinde (Solapur) filed their papers Monday.

Solapur and Nanded are among the 10 Lok Sabha seats which go to the polls in the second phase on April 18.

Tuesday was the last date of filing of papers for the second phase.

 

As many as 184 candidates have filed their papers for the seven seats which will vote in the first phase on April 11. Their scrutiny took place Tuesday.

The first phase polling will cover Wardha, Nagpur, Ramtek, Bhandara-Gondiya, Gadchiroli-Chimur, Chandrapur and Yavatmal-Washim seats.

The seats covered in the second phase are Buldhana, Akola, Amravati, Hingoli, Nanded, Parbhani, Beed, Osmanabad, Latur and Solapur.

The rest of the seats in Maharashtra, which sends 48 MPs to the Lok Sabha, the second highest after Uttar Pradesh (80), will vote on April 23 and 29.
