Lt Gen Gurmeet Singh new Chinar corps GOC

Lieutenant General Gurmeet Singh today took over as General Officer Commanding of the Srinagar- based strategic Chinar corps of the Army.

Lt Gen Singh replaced Lt Gen Om Prakash, who has been moved to Army headquarters on his next assignment after a year-long tenure here, a defence spokesman said.

"Lt Gen Om Prakash, General Officer Commanding (GOC) Chinar Corps, handed over the reigns of Chinar Corps to Lt Gen Gurmeet Singh who has an excellent understanding of Valley as he has a very rich track record of serving in Kashmir in various capacities as commander as well as staff," he said.
 

Lt Gen Singh commanded a brigade and division in the Valley and served as Brigadier General Staff of Chinar Corps during his earlier tenures.

During his tenure, Lt Gen Prakash has successfully taken the normalcy forward and reinforced the vitality of peace towards development and progress in the Valley, the spokesman said.

"Alongside the sustained counter terrorist operations resulting into successful elimination of large number of terrorists, he conceived and implemented various people friendly initiatives benefiting the vast cross section of the society," he said.
