Lt Governor Kiran Bedi today expressed grief over the death of former Agriculture Minister M Chandrakasu.
"I am shocked to hear of the demise of Chandrakasu and I express my heartfelt condolences," the Lt Governor said in her condolence message.
Chief Minister V Narayanasamy announced that a one-day state mourning was being observed today as a mark of respect to the departed leader.

Narayanasamy told newsmen Chandrakasu was a dedicated, simple and unassuming leader.He had served as Speaker and also Minister of Puducherry and was accessible to all sections.
The national flag flew half mast atop all government buildings in the Union Territory marking the state mourning.
The Chief Minister said he along with his cabinet colleagues and legislators would attend the funeral later in the day at Karaikal, the native place of Chandrakasu.
PCC president and PWD Minister A Namassivayam, the opposition leader and AINRC founder leader N.Rangasamy and leaders of different political parties expressed their condolences over the death.
