The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today expelled six leaders from the primary membership of the party for allegedly opposing party candidates and anti-party activities in Ludhiana ahead of civic elections there.
Harpreet Singh Bedi a civic poll candidate in Ward number 72 was shown the door for his alleged anti-party activities, a party leader said.
Harpreet has allegedly fielded his wife Veeran Bedi from Ward number 73 as an independent candidate against the BJP's official candidate even after he got the SAD ticket to contest the polls, he said.

The SAD has decided to extend support to Ravinder Kaushiq (Happy) from Ward number 32, he said.
The other leaders who have been expelled for their anti-party activities include Gurdeep Singh Leel and Kulwinder Kaur Goga, both contesting as independents from wards number 74 and 41 respectively.
He said the primary membership of Kulwinder Kaur's husband Sohan Singh Goga had also been suspended.
Another candidate Gurpal Singh Kohli was also suspended from the party for contesting as an independent candidate from Ward number 44, Cheema said.
"A detailed report has been sought about the anti-party activities of the SAD leaders from other wards as well. A disciplinary action would be taken against those found opposing the party candidates in any manner," the spokesman said.
The Ludhiana Municipal Corporation has 95 wards. The polling would be held on February 24 and the results would be announced on February 27.
