Actor Frank Whaley plays a recurring role of Detective Scarfe, a hard-nosed detective, on the upcoming Marvel series "Luke Cage".

The actor, who recently guest starred on "Gotham", will play a key role on the Netflix series, reported Deadline.

In the comic books, Scarfe is a former NYPD partner of Misty Knight who initially served as a close ally to characters like Luke and Iron Fist.

He took a surprising turn into a villain in "Shadowland", so it is unclear if Scarfe will be Luke's ally or for on the Netflix series.

Mike Colter stars as Luke, a wrongly imprisoned man, who gains superpowers in the form of unbreakable skin and superhuman strength by a sabotaged experiment.

He will be introduced on "Marvel's Jessica Jones", which is due to arrive in late 2015, before his own solo series hits Netflix.

Alfre Woodard (Minetta), Theo Rossi, Simone Missick aka Simone Cook (Missy) and Mahershala Ali aka Mahershalalhashbaz Ali (Cottonmouth aka Cornell Stokes) are other stars tapped for the new series.

Rosario Dawson is set to reprise her "Daredevil" role as Claire Temple.

Whaley, 52, starred in a bunch of movies such as "Field of Dreams" (1989), "Born on the Fourth of July" (1989), "The Doors" (1991) and "Pulp Fiction" (1994).

He wrote and directed 2014's "Like Sunday, Like Rain", and has guest starred on TV series like "Ray Donovan", "The Blacklist" and "Gotham" among others.
