Actor Idris Elba's highly-anticipated return in "Luther" is being given a super-sized premiere in the US.

Rather than airing the two new episodes from writer Neil Cross as a miniseries, BBC America has opted to air them both in one night, reported Digital Spy.

A three-hour block of Luther has been slotted as a holiday special on Thursday, December 17.

BBC One in the UK is expected to air the all-new "Luther" installments next month as well.

DCI John Luther is called out of seclusion for this two-episode arc to track down a serial killer with cannibalistic tendencies.

Luther will cross paths with tech expert Benny Silver (Michael Smiley) and high-ranking cop Martin Schenk (Dermot Crowley) once again as he pursues this new case.

Joining the cast are "Game of Thrones" star Rose Leslie, Da Vinci's Demons' Laura Haddock and "Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell" actor John Heffernan.
