Lutyens' Delhi will soon have a new police station on North Avenue with the AAP government today issuing a notification in this regard after the approval from Lt Governor Najeeb Jung.

The North Avenue Police station will have under its jurisdiction specific areas which were so far under the domain of the police stations at Parliament Street and Mandir Marg, both in New Delhi range of the city.

The notification has been issued by the Delhi government's Home department after the Lt Governor last week approved the proposal sent by Delhi Police.

"The Lt Governor of National Capital of Delhi is pleased to direct and declare that the new police station, after excluding areas from the jurisdiction of police stations of Parliament Street and Mandir Marg, shall be constituted namely North Avenue Police Station," the notification stated.

A particular stretch outside the Rashtrapati Bhavan premises will fall under the jurisdiction of the North Avenue Police Station.

"The jurisdiction areas under two police stations - Parliament Street and Mandir Marg - were large and in view of this, the new police station has been set up," an official said, adding that the work on the project will soon begin.

Earlier this month, new police station on South Avenue was inaugurated by Union Minister of State for Home Haribhai Parthibhai Chaudhary.
