M P Veerendra Kumar was today sworn in as a member of the Rajya Sabha after being elected as an independent in a bypoll from Kerala.
Kumar was administered the oath of office by Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu in his chamber, the Rajya Sabha secretariat said in a statement.
Kumar was earlier elected to the Rajya Sabha from Kerala as a JD(U) MP in April 2016, but he later resigned in December 2017, following disagreements with party chief and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar over the latter's joining hands with the BJP-led NDA.
Kumar, a media baron, is also a former JD(U) Kerala unit president.
Deputy Rajya Sabha chairman PJ Kurien, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Vijay Goel and Rajya Sabha Secretary-General Desh Deepak Verma, were also present when Kumar took oath as a Rajya Sabha member.
