Students of the Arts faculty of the city-based Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda may answer the Sindhi language paper in Devanagari or Arabic script from 2014-15 onwards, university registrar Amit Dholakia said.

"The decision was made after Sindhi community leaders from the city and the Gujarat state made representations to the M S University authorities to allow students the option of writing the Sindhi paper in Devnagari script, in addition to the traditional Arabic script.

Permitting Devnagari scropt to be used would increase enrollment in Sindhi language courses, Dholakia said, adding that examination papers would also be printed in both the scripts.

The decision is in line with practices followed in most other universities in India which offer Sindhi language as well as UPSC rules.
