French President Emmanuel Macron's new centrist party is heading for an overwhelming majority of seats in parliament, according to projections published after first-round legislative ballots today.
Republique en Marche (Republic on the Move, REM) and its small centrist ally MoDem are set to garner 390 to 445 seats in the 577-member National Assembly, after winning 32.2 to 32.9 percent of first-round votes ahead of a run-off election next Sunday.
