'Mad Men' creator and executive producer Matthew Weiner is to be honoured with the 2014 International Emmy Founders Award.

He will be presented with the award on November 24 at the International Emmy Awards Gala in New York.

Bruce L Paisner, president and CEO of the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, said Weiner had created "a global cultural phenomenon", reported BBC online.

The advertising agency drama set in the 1960s will end next year.

Paisner added that Mad Men had "dramatically changed the television landscape".

The seventh series of the award-winning US drama has been split into two parts - the first part has just aired, with the final seven episodes to be broadcast in 2015.

Weiner said the two-part season would enable "a more elaborate story" to be told.

Previous seasons of 'Mad Men' have spanned 13 episodes.
