West Bengal Transport Minister Madan Mitra, incarcerated in connection with the Saradha scam, was today shifted out of Intensive Treatment Unit (ITU) of a state-run hospital after his health improved.

"Mitra's health condition has improved. He is doing better now. He has been moved to his cabin from ITU this afternoon," SSKM Hospital Director Prof(Dr) Manju Banerjee told PTI today.

Mitra was on Friday shifted to the ITU after he complained of chest pain and respiratory distress. His diagnosis report revealed deteriorated oxygen saturation.

Though his condition has improved, doctors would review him twice daily, she said adding and senior doctors are keeping a close watch on him.

Mitra, arrested in December last year in the multi-crore rupees Saradha ponzi scheme scam, have been charge sheeted by CBI for several offences including criminal conspiracy. He has been spending most of his time in the hospital citing illness.

On CBI's plea, a city court had directed Alipore jail authorities to furnish details of Mitra's stay in hospital and prison.
