The sacred portals of Madhmaheshwar temple, one of the 'panch Kedars', situated at a height of 3,490 metres in Garhwal Himalayas, were closed today for the winters after an elaborate ceremony.
Special prayers were offered to lord Shiva by the priest of the ancient rock temple in the presence of devotees before its doors were shut for the season, temple committee officials said.
A replica of the shivalinga was taken out of the temple in a colourful palanquin before the closure of its doors, to be carried in the form of a procession to Ukhimath's Omkareshwar temple where it is worshipped during the winter months.
