Madhya Pradesh procures 72 lakh MT of wheat

The Madhya Pradesh government has procured 72 lakh metric tonnes (MT) of wheat on support price from 10 lakh farmers in the state.

"Madhya Pradesh is second in the country in wheat procurement on support price after Punjab. This year about 117 lakh MT wheat has been procured in Punjab, while it stood at 66 lakh MT in Haryana," an official release said.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Secretary Anthony Desa said Rs 11,000 crore have been paid to farmers in the state against the procurement of wheat made between March and May this year.

Besides, a bonus of Rs 1,000 crore would be directly deposited in the bank accounts of the farmers within a period of seven days, he added.
