Contending the claims made by parents of the 16-year-old gang-rape victim that she was murdered, DIG CID Damayanti Sen submitted a report before the Calcutta High Court today stating that the teenager had committed suicide.
The girl was gang-raped twice by the same perpetrators at Madhyamgram on October 26 last year and the case had attracted a lot of media attention.
Sen, who had solved the sensational Park Street gang-rape case, was asked by the high court to probe whether the victim was murdered as alleged by her parents or had committed suicide.

Government pleader Asok Banerjee placed Sen's report before Justice Dipankar Dutta and submitted that it was a case of suicide.
The girl allegedly was being hounded by relatives of one of the accused and she set herself on fire as she could no longer take the abuses heaped on her by them.
The girl's father, who lost his only daughter, had filed a petition before the high court seeking a CBI probe into the death.
The petitioner also claimed that with the police having failed to provide proper security to the girl and her family after she was shifted to a different area, it was difficult to put faith on such a force to hold a proper investigation.
The victim, daughter of a taxi driver, was gang-raped on October 26 last year and again when she was returning home after lodging a police complaint.
The court had directed Sen, on a suggestion by Advocate General Bimal Chatterjee, to investigate the cause of death of the girl and file a report before it.
