: Madras High Court Chief Justice Indira Banerjee today lamented some people criticising the Judiciary in the social media and said "we are giving judgements based on conscience."

Inaugurating the integrated court complex here, she stressed the need for protecting the dignity of the judiciary.

"Judgements are delivered based on conscience," she said.

Comments were made on social media recently against the Chief Justice after an order delivered by her on pleas challenging the disqualification of 18 AIADMK MLAs loyal to sidelined leader T T V Dhinakaran.

The Madras high court had slammed the authorities and asked why no action had been taken against those who posted such remarks.

Banerjee said advocates in family courts should become advisors and counsel their clients in such a way that the relationship between married couples remained harmonious.

The chief justice said she liked Tamil culture and tradition.
