The Madras High Court today summoned the Tamil Nadu home secretary to explain the delay in probing missing children cases that were registered more than two years ago.
A division bench headed by Justice M Sathyanarayanan passed the order on a habeas corpus plea seeking direction to trace two children who went missing from a platform near Parry's corner and Wall Tax Road.
Recently, when the plea came up for hearing, the bench pulled up the state government for not filing a proper report on the status of the pending missing children cases in the state.
The bench observed it was high time the departments concerned showed some sensitivity to the problem, especially considering the anxiety of the parents whose children have been untraceable for a quite long time.
"We are also of the view that disbursal of the fund created under the 'Juvenile Justice Fund' is also very much on the lower side and the disbursal mechanism also is not functioning properly," it said.
