Magisterial inquiry ordered into custodial death case

A magisterial inquiry has been ordered into the death of a 50-year-old man in police custody at Budhana town in the district.

Sub-divisional Magistrate of Budhana J P Gupta will be conducting an inquiry into the death of Nawab Qureshi, who died in police custody, and the recording of statements by witnesses will start on December 26 at the tehsil headquarters.

Earlier, five policemen, including the SHO of Budhana Police Station, had been booked for Qureshi's death.

Qureshi, who was wanted in a case, was arrested but he died due to heart failure in police custody, a senior police official had said.
 

Following Nawab's death, irate public protested and gheraoed the police station, demanding strict action against the police.
