A local court has ordered a DNA test for a Deputy Superintendent of Police to determine the paternity of the minor daughter born to a woman constable, who allegedly committed suicide.

A Judicial Magistrate court issued the order following a petition filed by the CB-CID Police, which had taken up the investigation relating to the death of the constable on the orders of the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court.

The woman, wife of Karuppiah alias Suresh, had allegedly committed suicide along with the child by consuming poison in October last.

A case had been registered against Karuppiah and three others for instigating the woman to commit suicide.

Karuppiah had filed a petition alleging that the DSP, Ravichandran was responsible for the death of his wife and child.

He alleged that the DSP had a relationship with his wife who was working with him and this resulted in the birth of the girl.

He also prayed for a CB-CID probe as he did not have faith in the investigation conducted by the local police inspector.

The Inspector in his counter had denied all charges and said the woman had committed suicide due to the 'torture' of her husband and in-laws.
