Chavan led a high-level delegation comprising senior state ministers to impress upon the Union Government for release of Rs 3,761.61 crore to tackle drought, sources said.
Maharashtra has declared drought in 123 talukas.
The Chief Minister is likely to meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh tomorrow followed by an official-level meeting and a decision on Maharashtra drought relief package may be announced after that, sources added.
Besides Finance Minister P Chidambaram, Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar, Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal were also present in the meeting.
A senior official said various schemes and measures to deal with the drought situation in the state were discussed.

Pawar and Chidambaram suggested Chavan to come out with detailed proposals giving requirement of funds from Centre under each head like irrigation, fodder, etc, the official added.
Due to deficient monsoon rains, drought like situation has emerged in several parts of the country including Karnataka and Gujarat.
Recently, Chidambaram announced that public sector banks are fully geared to deal with requirements of affected areas and they would restructure short-term loans. Banks would also be extending new loans to farmers.
Meanwhile, Chavan had had separate meetings with Petroleum Minister Jaipal Reddy and Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation Minister Kumari Selja.
While details could not be immediately known, sources said the meetings were not in connection with drought package.
