Maharashtra government will direct municipal bodies in the state to ensure that all transactions like decisions, notices etc are carried out in Marathi, the Legislative Council was informed today.

The announcement was made by Minister of State for Urban Development Bhaskar Jadhav, in response to a query by a Shiv Sena member.

Neelam Gorhe of the Sena, while speaking on supplementary demands in the House, had brought to the Minister's notice that Marathi was not being used in routine communication in the civic bodies.

Jadhav said that the state government will ask the municipal bodies, including the BMC, to adhere to Marathi in all routine work.

Necessary orders to the effect will be issued, the minister added.
