Maha: 2 cops held for taking bribe

Two cops attached with the Gadchiroli police were today arrested for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000 each from a contractor.

Assistant Police Sub-Inspector (APSI) Ramchandra Nandawar and police naik Sunil Vaidya attached with Asarali Police station had allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 30,000 from a road contractor, a release by Anti-Corruption Bureau said.

They had allegedly demanded the bribe for allowing the contractor to transport boulder and murram for the construction of a village panchayat road and not to take action against him, it said.

Following a complaint, a trap was laid today and the cops were apprehended while accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000 from him, it said.
 

A case under relevant section of Prevention of Corruption Act 1988 has been registered, the release added.
