Properties of 12 unlicensed moneylenders were raided in Kolhapur district and Rs 25 lakh in cash and other valuables were seized from the premises, an official said on Friday.

The state co-operative department on Thursday raided 16 properties of 12 moneylenders, who were operating without a licence, in Kolhapur city, Radhanagari and Bhudargarh, he said.

Officials have seized Rs 25 lakh in cash apart from gold and silver jewellery and blank stamp papers, he added.

The action was taken under the guidance of district deputy commissioner Amar Shinde, following complaints against these lenders at the District Deputy Registrar's office.

As many as 16 squads were formed in the district for raids in which 97 officers participated, he said, adding that the probe is underway.

There are only 255 licensed moneylenders in Maharashtra's Kolhapur district, he added.
