Sadanand Fulzele, founder
secretary of the Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Smarak Samiti which looks after Deekshabhoomi in Nagpur, died on Sunday morning.
He was 91.
Kabir Rawalekar, Vice Principal of Dr Ambedkar College Nagpur and a close friend, said Fulzele died at his home at around 9:30am.
Fulzele, an ardent Ambedkarite, was instrumental in building the stupa at Deekshabhoomi, the site of Babasaheb Ambedkar's conversion to Buddhism in 1956.
Fulzele, incidentally, was deputy mayor of Nagpur when the Dalit icon converted along with over 6 lakh followers.
