According to police, Amit alias Akshay Bhandari, a BSC student from Kada village in the district rang up Bangalore police from his mobile on Monday, threatening a bomb blast at the Chinnaswamy stadium yesterday, after the sixth over was bowled.
Police sources said that Bhandari, who is an ardent fan of Sena patriarch Bal Thackeray, also sent an SMS on the mobile of Milind Narvekar, personal assistant to Uddhav Thackeray, stating that the late leaders's wish not to allow Pakistan cricketers to play on Indian soil, was about to come true.
"Saheb tumche Swapna aata purn honar, 20-20 samnya madhe bomb blast honar" (Saheb, your dream will now be fulfilled, bomb blast will occur in the 20-20 match), the message read.
However, when Bhandari realised his folly, he cooked up an abduction story, fearing arrest, sources said.
Superintendent of Police Dattatrya Mandlik told PTI that Bhandari came to the police station last night and claimed to have been abducted by 4-5 persons, who forced him to call Bangalore police on Monday night.
When quizzed, he however admitted to have phoned Bangalore police, threatening a blast, the SP said.
