The budget session of the Maharashtra legislature will begin here on March 6, amid severe strains in ties of the ruling partners BJP and Shiv Sena after a bitter face-off by the saffron parties in the recent civic polls across the state.

The state budget for 2017-18, the third since the Devendra Fadnavis government came to power in 2014, will be presented on March 18.

After a meeting of the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) today, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Girish Bapat said the session, having 23 working days, will conclude on April 7.

The session will commence with Governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao's address to the joint sitting of the both houses of the legislature, laying down the roadmap for the government for the year ahead.

Discussion on the Governor's address will take place on March 8 and 9, followed by the Chief Minister's reply.

Supplementary Demands will be taken up on March 15 and Vote on Account on March 22. Discussions on department- wise budgetary demands will begin from March 24.

There will be a three-day break for Gudi Padwa from March 26 to 28, while for Ram Navmi from April 2 to 4.

The legislative business before the house includes two pending bills and six ordinances to be replaced by legislations.

On March 21, both houses will felicitate NCP supremo Sharad Pawar and PWP legislator Ganpatrao Deshmukh, who have completed 50 years in electoral politics.

The legislature will also pay homage to former Prime Minister late Indira Gandhi.

Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Vijay Shivtare from the Sena was present at the BAC meeting.

The civic polls across the state had witnessed a grim battle between Shiv Sena and the BJP, especially in the prestigeous Brihanmumbai Municipal Corportation (BMC), where the results threw up a fractured verdict.

The suspense over alignment of parties for controlling the Mumbai civic body continues, with the Congress, which finished third in the race with 31 seats, ruling out support to Shiv Sena and the BJP refusing to accept Congress's backing.
