Maha Civic polls: EC allows offline nomination filing

The Maharashtra Election Commission has permitted offline filing of nomination forms for the first phase of elections to municipal councils and nagar panchayat, scheduled next month, so that all aspirants can submit their papers by tomorrow, the last date of submission.

The process of filing the nomination papers online for the November 27 poll started on October 24.

The State Election Commission (SEC) has decided to accept papers offline as well to ensure that all aspirants are able to file their nomination papers and affidavit by October 29, State Election Commissioner J S Saharia.

He said the IT Department has devised a special software to enable candidates to file their nomination papers and affidavit for polls.
 

The officer said he had received some complaints about the software and the difficulties being faced by candidates.

Saharia said he took a review of the procedure with the concerned district collectors via video conference.

The officials of the IT Department and Mahaonline portal were present during the video conference. They have informed that necessary infrastructure has been made available.
