Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis today proposed construction of a grand memorial of Maharani Ahilyabai Holkar in collaboration with Madhya Pradesh government at Maheshwar town in this district.
"I will discuss the issue of making a grand memorial of Devi Ahilya with Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan when he returns from US and it will be constructed by Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh," Fadnavis said while addressing a programme in memory of Holkar's 221st death anniversary.
Holkar was the 18th century queen of the Maratha-ruled Malwa kingdom. She had moved the capital of her kingdom to Maheshwar, located south of Indore on Narmada River.

Malini, who was also present at the function, accepted the offer.
Fadnavis said he was fortunate to visit "Raj gaddi" (royal seat) of the queen who was known for her love for justice, in the Maheshwar Fort. He paid obeisance at samadhi of the queen situated on the banks of Narmada river.
Fadnavis also called upon the political class to learn lessons from Holkar's good work, especially on the religious front.
Anil Dhote, an MLA from Dhule in Maharashtra, was also present.
Madhya Pradesh state unit BJP president Nandkumar Singh Chauhan said the ruling government will extend all possible cooperation in building Holkar's memorial.
