The Maharashtra Congress has deputed observers in all districts of the state to interview aspirants seeking tickets to contest Assembly polls slated for later this year.

A statement issued by the party said state unit chief Balasaheb Thorat had appointed two observers for each district.

These observers will interview aspirants in district unit offices between July 29-31 and then submit a report to the state leadership, the statement said.

So far, 800 to 900 applications have been received from poll aspirants.

The Congress will be fighting the polls for the 288- member House in alliance with the NCP and some other parties.
