Maharashtra Legislative Council was today adjourned for the third consecutive day without transacting any real business after the Opposition created ruckus over the issue of farmer suicides and drought.

As soon as the session began this morning, Opposition Leader Dhananjay Munde raised the issue of farmer suicides and drought situation in the state and sought a discussion on them.

He also demanded that the state government should immediately announce a relief package for drought-hit farmers.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Girish Bapat told him that these issues could be discussed after the Question Hour.

When Council Deputy Chairman Vasantrao Dawkhare announced the Question Hour, the opposition Members rushed to the Well of the House and started shouting slogans like "give justice to farmers".

Congress' Manikrao Thakre said, "Government should announce complete loan waiver and relief package for farmers."

Other opposition members kept shouting slogans, following which the House was adjourned for 10 minutes.

However, when the House reassembled, the pandemonium continued and it was adjourned for the second time for another 15 minutes.

When the members met for the third time, the opposition legislators did not relent and came to the Well of the House, with some of them throwing paper sheets in the air, following which it was adjourned for the day.
