Farmers here today held a protest against the traders' decision to purchase onions at the Agriculture Produce Market Committee (APMC) packed in gunny bags instead of loose, police said.

The farmers staged a 'rasta-roko' at Panch-Kandil in Devla tehsil in the district protesting the traders decision, an official attached to Nashik rural police's control room said.

Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatana supported the agitation with its district president, Govind Pagar, threatening to intensify the protest.

"Farmers have to spend extra to purchase gunny bags," he said.

Local Shiv Sena activists at Devla also submitted a memorandum to the tehsildar Anil Chavan in this regard.
