A 20-year-old fireman attached to the Thane Civic Fire Services suffered a severe head injury while fighting a blaze at Mumbra town in Maharashtra's Thane district, an official said on Friday.
The incident took place at around 7.15 pm on Thursday when firemen rushed to douse a fire that erupted at a fourth- floor flat in Mobin Apartment, chief of Thane Municipal Corporation's disaster management cell Santosh Kadam said.
Two fire engines were pressed into service, following which fireman Moin Shaikh, who was operating the jet of the Quick Response Vehicle (QRV), fell and sustained a severe head injury, he said.
Shaikh was initially rushed to a civic hospital nearby, but was subsequently shifted to KEM Hospital in Mumbai, where he is undergoing treatment, the official added.
