Maha floods: CM, Governor call off customary I-Day events

In view of recent floods and resultant loss of lives, Maharashtra Chief Minister and the Governor have cancelled customary events marking Independence Day, officials said on Tuesday.

The customary lunch for diplomats and eminent citizens to be hosted by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on August 14 as well as the "At Home" event at Mantralaya on August 15 stood cancelled.

Governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao has also called off "At Home" programme to be held in Pune on August 15, they said.

However, the CM will hoist the tricolour at Mantralaya on August 15 while the Governor in Pune.

Fadnavis has greeted citizens on the occasion of Independence day with an appeal to help those affected by the floods.

 

At least 49 people have died in floods and rain-related incidents in the last nine days in five districts, including the worst-hit Kolhapur and Sangli.
