Taking serious cognisance of the children's death in Thane district due to malnutrition, Maharashtra Governor K Sankaranarayanan has convened a meeting of concerned ministers.

The Governor has called a meeting of Tribal Development Minister Madhukarrao Pichad and Women and Child Development Minister Varsha Gaikwad to review the situation in the state, at Raj Bhavan in Pune on August 12, an official release said.

Pichad recently admitted that large scale malnutrition deaths occurred in Thane district due to non-availability of proper medical infrastructure and health care facilities.

Pichad said this while visiting the predominantly tribal Jawhar and Mokhada talukas of Thane district, where large scale child deaths have been reported since the last three months.
