Maharashtra Governor K Sankaranarayanan has expressed grief over the demise of veteran playback singer Shamshad Begum, saying her songs are still refreshing and appealing.

"Shamshad Begum's melodious voice takes one back to the golden era of Indian films. Shamshadji had a unique voice that touched the heart of the listener. Even today, her songs appear as refreshing and appealing as they did when she actually sang them. She may no longer be amidst us, but I am sure her beautiful songs will live on for many more years," the Governor said in a condolence message.

Sankaranarayanan recalled that he had felicitated the legendary singer at Raj Bhavan on May 21, 2010 for receiving the Padmabhushan award for year 2009.
