The Maharashtra government today appointed retired bureaucrat Gautam Chaterjee as the housing regulator under the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act 2016, which aims to safeguard interests of home buyers and resolve disputes relating to the housing sector.

According to a government resolution (GR) issued today, Chaterjee will be officer on special duty in the Chief Minister's Office.

He will hold additional charge as housing regulator till the housing regulatory authority is constituted, the GR said.

The draft rules framed for the authority are in public domain for inviting suggestions and objection till December 31, an official said.

Following finalisation of rules, the authority will come into existence. The regulatory authority will be a quasi judicial body, he added.
