Leader of Opposition in Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil today alleged that the BJP-Shiv Sena government had entered into a "secret pact" to divert Godavari water to the neighbouring Gujarat.

"Maharashtra government should make public the secret pact it has entered into with Gujarat on water use," Patil demanded here.

The proposed linking of Damanganga-Pinjal and Paar-Tapi would affect the water situation in Maharashtra and give away water to Gujarat, the Congress leader said.

"Prime Minister Narendra Modi is insisting that work on linking the rivers should start in March and that is why the Devendra Fadnavis government is in a hurry," Patil alleged.

"It is said that Mumbai will get 20 TMC water due to this pact but why the government is letting go of its share of 100 TMC Godavari water," he said.
