Maha govt sanctions Rs 3 crore for Olympics preparations

Maharashtra Government today sanctioned Rs three crore for preparations of 61 players from the state for the Tokyo Olympics of 2020.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis tweeted about the decision after meetings with the officials this evening.

"CM @Dev_Fadnavis & @TawdeVinod sanctions 3 crore for players and other facilities towards preparations for the upcoming Tokyo Olympics 2020," the tweet said.

An official release said this would benefit 61 players from 16 sports.

"Maharashtra government has already allocated Rs three crore for facilitation and players' training in the current financial year. The amount has to be spent before March 31, as the financial year 2016-17 ends then....There will be some budgetary allocation to players every year as per the requirement," said Nand Kumar, principal secretary, School Education and Sports, speaking to PTI.
 

The funds can be used for training, hiring coaches, and even for infrastructure development if required, Nand Kumar said.

Additionally, the players who did well at the Rio Olympics would also get Rs 1.42 crore from the state government for preparations.
