Additional Director General-level IPS officer R K Sahay, currently posted with Maharashtra Police Housing and Welfare Corporation, today attempted suicide by setting himself afire at his official residence in South Mumbai, allegedly over some domestic issue, police said.

Sahay suffered 60 per cent burns and is admitted to ICU at Bombay Hospital.

"Sahay was brought to Bombay Hospital with burn injuries and admitted in ICU," said Nisar Tamboli, DCP (zone II) in a statement.

Tamboli said Sahay has not yet given any statement and Malabar Hill police is investigating the incident.

"We will be able to record his statement as soon as his condition improves," said Tamboli.
