Maharashtra Revenue and Public Works department Minister Chandrakant Patil this morning travelled by a suburban train so that he could reach on time for the state Cabinet meeting.

Patil, who hails from Kolhapur district in western Maharashtra, left his express train journey at Karjat this morning as it was delayed after the train's engine developed a technical glitch.

"I travel to Mumbai via Mahalaxmi Express from Kolhapur, regularly. There was some problem to the engine between Satara and Rahimatpur stations; hence the train reached at Karjat station at 7.45 AM. The train generally reaches Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST) by 7.30 AM. As there were three key issues slated for the Cabinet meet, I decided to travel by local (suburban) train, the assured public transport service," Patil told PTI.

"I was accompanied by my wife and some official staff and body guards. Hence, I alighted the Mahalaxmi Express at Karjat and purchased the tickets of first class so that I can reach CST before 10 AM," he said.

It takes around 2 hours to reach CST from Karjat in a fast train.

"It helped me as I could reach the state secretariat within 10 minutes (from house)", the Minister quipped.
