Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray today said there is a need to set up permanent gallery in Mumbai to showcase rich traditions of Marathi theatre.

Thackeray was speaking at the foundation stone laying ceremony of the first auditorium to be built in Mira-Bhayander township in the district.

The auditorium is being constructed by the Mira-Bhayander Municipal Corporation.

Thackeray said Maharashtra and (West) Bengal have preserved the rich traditions of theatre.

"In order to give information of the theatre's journey, there is a need for setting up a permanent gallery in Mumbai," the Sena President said.

He further said that Bengal has preserved the tradition of dramas even today, which are held all the seven days of the week. But in Maharashtra the situation is different and there is a a need to increase the number of dramas here (in the state).

Along with this, the gallery should include theatre's journey, stages of progress, actors who have become famous on stage, yesteryears screens, curtains, sets and equipments, Thackeray added.

He also inaugurated a local office of Sena MP Rajan Vichare.

Speaking at a function yesterday, Thackeray said Sena has always fulfilled its promises and bluffing is not entertained in the party and hence we were to able to complete 50 years.

"The party is celebrating golden jubilee year and as party chief, I thank all the Sainiks (party-workers) because of whom we were able to reach this stage," he added.
