Coming down heavily on the BJP government on the issue of farmers' suicide, Leader of Opposition in Maharashtra Assembly Eknath Shinde today said the state should provide immediate financial help to farmers to bail them out of the crisis.
"The BJP government should be blamed for the sorry state of affairs of the farmers. At a time when the farmers are facing severe hardships and committing suicides, the BJP government is waiting for the Centre's help. This is nothing but a mockery of the farmers," he told reporters here.
Instead of waiting for central assistance, the state government should realise the seriousness of the issue and go ahead with providing relief to farmers and their families, Shinde said.

The Shiv Sena leader likened the BJP government with (Congress-NCP's) erstwhile Democratic Front government in the state over the issue.
"There is no difference between the two governments. The BJP government is wasting time on farmers' issues just like its predecessor," Shinde said.
The government should stop wasting time and provide relief to the farmers, who have suffered due to natural calamities like untimely rain, he added.
