Maharashtra government today announced appointment of a committee, headed by a retired judge of Supreme Court, to study the technical and legally complex issues faced by properties governed by the Urban Land Ceiling Act, which was repealed nine years ago.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis informed Legislative Assembly that properties governed under the Act are facing complex difficulties as section 20 was saved while repealing the Act.

"The panel will study the legalities and suggest us the steps to be taken to deal with these cases," he said.

As there was no uniform framework to deal with the cases related to the properties then developed by the law and they are dealt on a case-to-case basis, Fadnavis said.

He said the societies and properties under the purview of the ULC are falling prey to the whims and fancy of officers of the department.
