The Maharashtra government will complete a biometric survey of street vendors across the state within two months, Minister of State for Home Ranjit Patil told the Legislative Council today.

He said the government has already launched the survey in the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC).

A query on the status of the survey in various municipal corporations was asked by MLC Sharad Ranpise.

"We are also following the order of (high) court regulating hawking within 150 metres of railway stations and have also put up 'NoHawkers' sign boards," Patil said.

Replying to a query by NCP's Hemant Takle, the minister said directions have been given to all municipal corporations to effectively prohibit roadside cooking by vendors.

He said the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) had recently seized 600 LPG cylinders from hawkers while cracking the whip on the practice of roadside cooking.
