State-run Mahagenco today said it has started electricity generation from the first unit of the 1,980-MW Koradi Expansion Thermal power project in Nagpur.
Mahagenco has decided to set up three units of 660 MW each as part of its Koradi expansion project in Nagpur.
"Koradi expansion project has achieved boiler light-up of the first unit of 660 MW of its thermal power plant. The unit is expected to be synchronised to the grid in November this year," Mahagenco said in a statement here today.
The second and third units of the project are expected to achieve boiler light up or start generating electricity in November 2014 and April 2015, respectively, the release said adding the synchronisation of the second unit is expected likely to take place in March 2015.
"In 2015, we will be able to generate 1,320 mw from this project, while the third unit will be completely operational in FY16. With this, we will be able to enhance our generation capacity and we are confident of meeting the state's power demand," Mahagenco Managing Director Asheesh Sharma said.
Mahagenco currently has an installed capacity of 10,737 MW of which 7,480 MW is from thermal.
With the addition of the three 660 MW units, the total installed capacity of thermal power will increase to 9,460 MW.
