Mahaout trampled to death by elephant

A Mahout was trampled to death today by a raging elephant at a village in Bihar's East Champaran district, a police officer said.

The incident took place at Mangalapur village as an elephant went wild without provocation and trampled its mahout Triloki Raut (40) to death, Kalyanpur police station in-charge Manzar Alam said.

The body has been sent for post-mortem, he said, adding a forest team has been called to bring the pachyderm under control.

The slain Mahaout, a native of Katariya village, had come to Manglapur village with the elephant for a marriage ceremony, the police officer said.
